Quick Reviews of 2012 K-Pop Debuts I

With all the new groups debuting, fans are having a hard time weeding out the good from the why-the-hell-did-they-even-debut groups so I have decided to review as many new groups as I can and share my input on them so you don't have to! Since there are like a million groups I will only write 3 sentences (and some random highlights) to describe the good and bad of every group (sometimes I feel like every Korean in Korea is in an idol group, really how can that many Koreans be good at singing and dancing?). These reviews will be based on the first official mv the group released NOT their works now.

*In no particular order*

B.A.P (Best Absolute Perfect)-Warrior

Concept: Badass Thugs
ENT: TSent (home of Secret)
Fav moment of the mv: ALL OF IT (but Daehyun's high note and the shooting end stuck with me the most)
WTF/Shocking moment of the mv: Zelo's lightning rap
Fanclub name: Baby
Bias: Daehyun (because Zelo is jailbait)

Best Absolute Perfect may seem like a random assortment of adjectives but these talented boys live up to every single word in their name. Their debut song Warrior was so jaw droppingly powerful and awesome that I tried to restrain from blinking the first time through the mv because I was afraid I'd miss a detail. Hands down my favourite debut of 2012.

If you for some reason haven't checked out B.A.P's prowess in Warrior then click on the link below and prepare to be blown away. B.A.P-Warrior

Exo (Exoplanet)-Mama

Concept-Super Hero/Spirits/Alien/Gods?
ENT: SMent
FMOTM: The beginning narration and any time the powers were used
WTF/SMOTM: Kai's scary face paint screamo time
Fanclub name: ---
Bias: Chanyeol (happy virus :D!)

It took SM 100 Days, 2 prologue songs, a gazillion teasers and a lot of money to debut Exo but damn was this a fierce debut. Mama was everything I imagined and then some (seriously this is the kind of stuff I expect from the big 3). Both SM and Exo evidently spent a lot of time and effort on this song and mv and it was worth it because this debut was simply FLAWLESS.

I would probably have liked this group more if SM hadn't bombarded us with endless teasers (that mostly featured only Kai) however I do like both units of Exo a lot and hope they continue to make more fantastic albums.  Exo-K-Mama  Exo-M-Mama

BTOB (Born to Beat)-Insane

Concept: Um mopey violent heartbroken guys?
ENT: Cube
FMOTM: The shedding of man tears
WTF/SMOTM: Maknae murdering the mirror
Fanclub name: Melody
Bias: Minhyuk

Despite having a group name that makes people assume they're all malicious wifebeaters, BTOB is one of the better debuts of 2012. The mv isn't anything new or original (and it reminded me of their senior B2ST's Fiction) but the song itself was insanely addictive (:S such a bad pun...I'm sorry). I had Insane on repeat for so long that my sister almost threw my iPod across the room so that she wouldn't have to hear it anymore.

I really enjoyed this song and I hope every one does too. BTOB-Insane

Hello Venus-Venus

Concept: Cutesy aegyo goddesses
ENT: Pledis
FMOTM: The group dance party featuring NU'EST
WTF/SMOTM: That one really old guy crush amongst the middle school looking boys
Fanclub: Hello Cupid
Bias: I switch between Lime, Ara and Alice

I really liked their intial teaser because the music in it sounded fun and different. However, when Venus came out I was disappointed because it was similar to pretty much every newcomer girl group song and mv there was. The song, mv and dancing were all mediocre but for some reason I feel like Hello Venus has the potential to be so much better so I will still check out their new stuff from time to time.

I usually don't have soft spots for girl groups but I don't know why I really like the Hello Venus members so I support them anyways.  Hello Venus-Venus

And that sums up part 1 of 2012 reviews. Phew that took quite a while. Sorry part 1 was so testerone-y. I just think of boy groups first.

Best K-Pop Mashups of All Time

Because of the Chaser- After School's Because of You and INFINITE's The Chaser
Arguably the best mashup ever made EVER. Two amazing stand alone songs that somehow join together to become a song that's a million more times more epic. The remix isn't awkward at all and the rap sequences fit together beautifully. PERFECTION.

Bad Boy's Farewell- BIG BANG's Last Farewell and Son Dam Bi's Bad Boy
An old remix but still great netherless. A fun mash up to dance to. :D

Nobody's Peach- IU's Peach and Wonder Girls' Nobody
IU's sweet track Peach is jazzed up by Wonder Girls' famous catchy song, Nobody. At first a seemingly unlikely mashup but the result is quite lovely.
